When the sun shines on the solar panels, the sun’s photons are absorbed by the photovoltaic cells in the solar panel and activate positive and negative electrons at the top and bottom of the solar panel. The electrons meet at the middle of the panel to form an electrical current. The current flows throughout the embedded circuits inside the panels and connects to your home’s electrical panel through connected wires.

Solar panel degradation is the yearly loss of energy production by the solar panels. REC panels have one of the lowest degradation rates in the industry, just 0.25% each year. Over 25 years, an REC panel will produce 92% of its initial power generation.

The efficiency of a solar panel is the rate at which the panel converts the amount of sunlight into energy. REC panels can convert 20-23% of sunlight into solar energy, above the industry averages.

Depending on the design of the panels, you could lose total production from the panel with just partial shade. REC panels use 4 strings in their solar panels, meaning if a portion of the panel is shaded, only ¼ of the power from the panel is lost. More power for your home!
