We know you have a million questions:
We know this because we are asked these questions every single day. It is our objective to make sure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.
We are a bunch of solar experts working to transition our communities to renewable energy for a better future for everybody. StraightUp Solar is the most experienced turn-key solar installation company serving Missouri and Illinois. Founded in 2006, we have installed over 2,500 solar projects. Customers throughout Missouri and Illinois trust us to handle the entire solar project from start to finish: including engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and service.
Education is part of our company CLEARE Values and we want to help answer your questions. If you are ready to get started now, you can call us at (844) 977-6527 or request your free quote here.
The short answer is yes, solar is now more affordable than ever.
Depending on whether you live in Missouri or Illinois, incentives can differ. Ameren Missouri offers a solar rebate for Missouri customers, and Illinois has a Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC) program that brings significant savings.
This federal dollar-for-dollar credit against your tax liability will take 30% off the total cost of your solar installation.
We offer financing through Clean Energy Credit Union, which can help you go solar for only $500 as a down payment. It can be easily built into the proposal we create for you and the process is fully integrated with ours to make financing easy.
Generally monthly payments for your solar array are at or less than your electric bill cost, so for a while you are swapping bills, but then it pays itself off. Every array’s payback period is different, but our team can calculate it for you.

There are many factors that affect whether your home is ideal for a solar installation.
Do you have an unshaded large space on your roof, in your yard (in rural areas), or an outbuilding that could hold some panels? If the answer is yes, then you likely have a solar opportunity.
Does the area you are thinking of face south, east, or west? South is the best facing direction for solar so that the sun can hit the panels all day long. East and west will work too, but for half of the day sunlight will not be hitting the panels directly, making it less ideal. We do not install on north facing surfaces because they do not get enough sun in our opinion.
We’ve put together a handy 2-minute quiz to see if solar can work for you.
After your solar array is built, your utility will install a bidirectional meter. When you are not using the solar energy, it will leave your home to power the grid. If your utility uses net metering (more on this below), the meter will credit that toward your bill. When the panels are not producing enough energy to power everything in your home at that moment, you will consume from the grid and will be charged. Find out more.
If you do NOT have a solar + battery backup system, your home will NOT have power during an outage. (This protects utility workers as they restore power.) If energy security is important to you, we can help you find the right solar + battery solution for your home.
Utilities have different rate structures for the credits and debits from your bidirectional meter. Watch the video to learn how net metering impacts your power bills.
