ABOUT THE LEGISLATION

After years of advocacy, Illinois commits to 50% Renewable Energy Standard.

Go Solar, Save $$, and be a part of Illinois’ Clean Energy Future!

In case you hadn’t heard, this is a big deal! On Monday, September 13th, 2021, the Illinois General Assembly passed legislation with a commitment to reaching 50% renewables by 2040. The Climate and Equitable Jobs Act puts Illinois at the forefront of the fight against climate change all while creating tens of thousands of jobs, expanding diversity in the renewable energy industry, assisting fossil fuel plant workers with opportunities to transition into a clean energy job, and providing more than $1 billion in electricity bill savings for consumers.

Governor JB Pritzker made history by officially signing this legislation into law Wednesday, September 15th, 2021.

As a result of this landmark renewable energy legislation, Illinois will be among the national leaders on the path to decarbonization. StraightUp Solar invites you to join us in leading Illinois’ clean energy future.

This legislation will create nearly 9,800 MW of new solar capacity that will soon be popping up all over Illinois on homes, businesses, schools, municipal buildings, and farms.

New Illinois solar incentives will be available! Due to the popularity of the Illinois Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC) cash incentive, the program’s funding for rooftop solar has been depleted for several months. This legislation immediately replenishes the fund to help grow solar in Illinois, providing funding for everyday people and businesses to go solar.
