As solar energy experts, StraightUp Solar’s Marion crew was delighted to shared their solar expertise with the River Region Master Teaching Fellows Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale by providing classroom learning, tours and hands-on lessons to sixteen K-12 teachers from across Southern Illinois. Our veteran Project Developers, Solar Designers, Installers, Policy Experts, Service Techs, and Permitting and Incentive Specialists transferred their real-world knowledge to the classroom over the immersive two-week seminar. Our team taught the Fellows about the evolution of energy, solar energy design and technology, solar policy and energy storage.
In addition to touring the solar installations at John A. Logan College and at the City of Carbondale Civic Center, both installed by StraightUp Solar, the Fellows dove into hands-on learning projects to bring back to their classrooms. Their final project was building a solar oven capped by an Iron Chef competition.
