Burroughs Farms, located in Morton, Illinois, has been family farming since 1896. In October of 2015, Scott and Calvin Burroughs decided to make the switch to powering their grain operations through solar power.
Burroughs Farms, LLC has a long history of caring for the environment. The farm strives to be in harmony with their neighbors and consumers. Each season the farm employs processes and procedures to make it even more environmental friendly and now solar is a part of that continued history.
The Burroughs Farms solar system is a 24.7 kW array made up of 81 solar panels and 3 SMA inverters. The system produced approximately 27,000 kWh of solar energy in year one and has eliminated nearly 42,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide emissions in the first year alone. The system’s annual impact will be over $1,500 in utility savings.
The farm was able to take advantage of the 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit, Illinois Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC) Program, MACRS Accelerated Depreciation, and a 25% USDA REAP Grant that allow the incentives to cover up to 85% of the total system cost.
We would like to congratulate the Burroughs Farm for being an early adopter of solar in Agriculture . The system will produce energy for the farm for decades to come, allowing generations of Burroughs to enjoy clean solar energy.
