StraightUp Supports These Organizations

We previously shared local organizations that we support. As we mentioned before, we love being part of a growing a solar industry and supporting other “believers” in the renewable / environmental community. Here are three organizations that are advocates for the solar community on a national / global level.

We’re proud to be a founding member and supporter of Missouri Solar Energy Industries Association (MOSEIA) and a member of the national organization, Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). SEIA focuses on national solar policy and provides a wealth of information on their website. Established in 1974, SEIA works with it’s member companies to make solar a mainstream and significant energy source by expanding markets, removing market barriers, strengthening the industry and educating the public on the benefits of solar. SEIA advocates for multiple pro-solar policy issues, including: maintaining the Solar Investment Tax Credit of 30% that is in place until 2016, and maintaining and improving net-metering standards. Vote Solar is another strong advocate for national solar policy and a great resource for national and state level solar information. Founded in 2002, Vote Solar is a non-profit grassroots organization working to fight climate change and foster economic opportunity by bringing solar into the mainstream. In addition to their work to maintain the Solar Investment Tax Credit, Vote Solar is working to develop new finance programs and empower community solar programs as well as assist organizations like MOSEIA on the state level. We had the pleasure of hearing directly from Adam Browning, Executive Director of Vote Solar at last year’s annual MOSEIA meeting. There is no doubt that Vote Solar is a key player in America’s move toward embracing solar. Learn more at www.votesolar.org.

Finally, StraightUp Solar is also excited to support and work with SolarAid. Started in 2006, SolarAid has set an audacious goal to eradicate expensive and dangerous kerosene lamps from Africa by 2020. They use business based solutions to provide solar lighting to homes and schools in Africa. For example, for only $1,600 we can work together to bring affordable solar lighting to a school through their Lighter Learning program.
