Illinois Net Metering

Illinois’ net metering policy provides yet another incentive for homeowners looking to switch to solar. With net metering, you can earn bill credits from your utility company for the excess solar energy your solar PV system produces, which can increase your monthly cost savings.

Illinois Solar Rebates

The Illinois Shines program, brought to you by the Illinois Power Agency (IPA), provides solar renewable energy credits (sRECs) for energy generated by qualifying solar systems. These credits are payments to the solar array owner. sRECs are the monetary value of the environmentally beneficial attributes of the solar array and help Illinois utilities meet their renewable energy targets. These payments come to the solar owner in the form of a check from an Illinois Shines approved broker, StraightUp Solar’s broker is Carbon Solutions Group. 

Your sREC value is based upon the estimated production of your solar array. StraightUp Solar will calculate the estimated production of your solar array for its lifetime, and then will share that calculation with the Illinois Shines approved broker. You will be paid upfront for 15 years’ worth of sRECs in the first year of your solar array’s operation.
