This month we’re recognizing Charles Melton, Jr., StraightUp Solar Project Manager who always keeps us smiling as he keeps our solar projects on track for a timely completion. 

Q: How long have you worked at StraightUp Solar? | A: Four years in August.

Q: If you were part of a solar array, which part would you be, and why? | A: The monitoring system or the conduit – I can’t decide. I like the idea of being the operating system, but also the part (conduit) routing the system’s power.

Q: What’s the scope of your job? | A: As project manager, I’m the main point of contact from sale to an energized system. I coordinate all inspections and serve as a liaison with utilities and authorities having jurisdiction. The majority of my work centers on compliance, safety and customer care.

Q: Tell us a little something about your family and hobbies? A: I’m a proud father of a gifted 8 year old. My hobbies include health and wellness and I am a sprinter track coach at Hazelwood Central.

Q: What’s your solar training background? A: On the job training for the first few years and currently I am studying for the NABCEP Associates certification.

Q: Describe what it means to be part of the SUS Tribe. A: It’s like an extended family. It’s empowering to work with like-minded individuals who are doing good things for our world.

Charles earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering Management with an emphasis in Management of Technology, at the University of Missouri-Rolla. He had previous solar work experience, as well as broad internship experience in the fields of industrial engineering, environmental health, and sales before joining StraightUp Solar
