StraightUp Solar’s Shannon Fulton is supporting We Care Solar’s emergency relief efforts in Nepal!

Shannon is heading to Kathmandu on July 19th with WE CARE Solar Co-founder Dr. Laura Stachel to co-lead training of One Heart Worldwide team members on the use and installation of the Solar Suitcase.

Shannon and Dr. Stachel will also assist with system installations in temporary tents and birthing houses until facilities can be rebuilt after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake and aftershock events last April and May.

Funding for deployment of 100 Solar Suitcases in temporary facilities is being provided by UBS, and will take place in 2 of the districts that One Heart works in where 75-90% of health facilities were destroyed.

WE CARE Solar provides health facilities in areas without reliable electricity with highly efficient solar energy systems to power medical lighting, mobile communication and essential medical devices.

Their durable, plug-and-play Solar Suitcases, developed by Dr. Stachel’s husband and co-founder Hal Aronson, facilitate timely, safe, appropriate emergency obstetric care and improve outcomes for mothers and newborns.

The obstetric Solar Suitcase includes medical quality lighting, fetal monitors, power for charging cell phones and small devices, and headlamps with rechargeable batteries.

This will be Shannon’s third trip to the developing world to assist WE CARE Solar in their amazing mission to save mothers and babies.

Stay tuned for updates from the field!
