August 2016: Valmeyer Solar

David B of Valmeyer, Illinois had been thinking about going solar for a long time. His reasoning wasn’t unusual for an engineer…he “could see all that energy from the sun reaching his roof and then just wasting away as accumulated heat!” According to David, seeing our Solar Booth at the 2016 St. Louis Home Show is what led his remedy to become a reality. Today he and his family have a 14,000 Watt system (most of the array doesn’t appear in the photo). And just like our own in-house engineer, he enjoys watching...

July 2016: St. Peters Remove & Replace

One hot day this summer, after a round of roughly palm-sized hailstones rained down on his neighborhood, Jim B. of St. Peters, Missouri noticed that his roof had sustained some damage. Thankfully the solar panels were fine, protected by their tough upper layer of tempered glass. Jim received a 9,880 Watt system in 2014 at his home which provides more than 75% of his home’s energy consumption annually, reducing his electric bills by more than $250 during the hottest months. Jim works in the energy industry and had always been interested...

November 2015: Solar Makes Sense for the SUS Family

Dale & Jan Ritzel are the proud parents of Brent Ritzel, one of our bright Project Developers at StraightUp Solar. Dale, as Professor Emeritus of Health Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, was motivated to go solar in order to ensure low utility expenses and provide benefits to the environment through clean energy generation. That dual rationale of environmental and financial benefits has driven Dale & Jan’s son Brent to become a vocal renewable energy advocate throughout his prestigious career, which includes...

September 2015: Energy Independence in Missouri

A new 9.9 kiloWatt (kW) solar energy array came online in eastern Missouri during the bright sunny days of summer this year and the proud owner, Steve, is happy to contribute his solar kilowatt hours (kWhs) to offset his home’s usage and traditional fossil fuel generation on the electric grid.  Our newest addition to the Solar Tribe had multiple reasons for going solar, shaped by his time in the United States Navy and his fascination with advanced technology. On renewable energy Steve recalls coming back to the US and realizing the...

August 2015: Solar Made Sense to Energy Savvy Agribusiness

Larry Rhodes had a very practical reason for choosing solar energy to supplement the electrical usage at his farm in Central Illinois. “Solar proved to be a good investment from a business standpoint and I realized that it would positively impact my neighbors as well.” Larry’s solar journey began through conversations with his son abut wind energy, which has become so prevalent in the rural landscape across Central Illinois. “When I looked into it, solar gave the best bang for my buck, even compared to...

July 2015: Wildwood Community Comes Together for Solar

After researching the logistics and prospects of harvesting solar energy to power his home for many years, Rich Ward of Wildwood made the decision to install a 7.83 kW roof mounted system on his newly purchased home.  Mr. Ward is both confident and excited that his system will reap the rewards of his research and commitment to renewable energy.  Ward had this to say about the financial prospects of his decision, “I’ve been interested in solar for 10 years, and this was the time to do it… Green is great, but it needs to...

June 2015: Awesome Ground Mount Installation

This 9.76 kW ground mount was installed in June near Neosho, Missouri.  Another proud StraightUp Solar customer took advantage of the Empire Electric rebate to provide their home with renewable energy for multiple decades and dramatically lower their electric bills over that time.  If your roof experiences shading or structural problems a ground mount like this one is often an efficient alternative to a roof mounted...

May 2015: Imperial Residence Sees Immediate Impact of Solar Installation

A 21.35 kW system installed in Imperial, Missouri has allowed local businessman Jeff Steele to join the StraightUp Solar Tribe.  The two rooftop arrays installed will accumulate a $126,191 savings over the estimated 25 year life of the system.  Jeff was influenced to install solar arrays after the successful installation of solar panels on the home of a nearby neighbor.  Both the financial and environmental impact of the Steele‘s decision to choose a renewable source of energy made the choice to go solar an easy...
