Oct 2012 – First St. Louis County SAVES Project

This month, StraightUp Solar completed the first solar project of the St. Louis County SAVES loan program! St. Louis County SAVES is a low interest loan program for energy efficiency and solar projects. Loans range from $2,500-$15,000. Rates are 3.5% and have flexible payment schedules up to 10 years. Steven B., a resident of Shrewsbury, financed this 4.3 kW system with only a small down payment.  The system will save Steven more than $25,000 on his electric bills even after he pays it off. In September a client in the of St. Peters pursued a 4.9 kW SunPower system from StraightUp Solar just after we installed a 25 kW system on his house of worship, United Hebrew Congregation. The homeowner then purchased a Chevy Volt to be charged by the solar energy via a 240 watt charging station in his garage. Now, he enjoys a lower Ameren electric bill and has nearly eliminated trips to the gas station, too. Before the Volt, the 20 solar panels mitigated about 90% of this electric bill. Aug 2012 – The Pointe at Ballwin Commons

The City of Ballwin is now a leading clean energy municipality with 234 solar panels installed at the Pointe at Ballwin Commons. The solar powering the rec center offsets 70,000 pounds of coal from being burned each year. Joe Mental, VP of Field Operations, is pictured at Ballwin Pointe. Crossroads College Preparatory School, a leader in sustainability in education, is home to the largest solar installation on a school in the region. 364 solar panels totaling 87 kilowatts now powers a portion of the Central West End school. St. Louis-based Urban Improvement Construction (UIC) has embarked on the first holistic green neighborhood redevelopment in St. Louis. In the Botanical Grove neighborhood (just northeast of the Missouri Botanical Garden), UIC is building and renovating 30 homes to LEED for Homes standards.
